Grade 5 Still Life

This unit incorporated a variety of elements and principles of art. The students began learning about Value and how to shade from dark to light and vice verse.

I then taught them about form and how using value can transform a fruit from appearing flat to round. I did this with an apple, showing them how to look for shadows and light.

Students then begin sketching a still life fruit bowl. Once they finished I incorporated pointillism. Students then learned about Seurat and his pointillism paintings. I demonstrated how to create value and shading using pointillism. We then added value with color on the fruit.

Students divided their background into geometric shapes using Zentangles to fill in each shape. This was an intense unit but I am so proud of my students, their progress and their finished pieces. πŸŽ¨β€οΈπŸ‡πŸŽπŸπŸŠπŸ‘πŸ½πŸ˜πŸ™ŒπŸ½
