Line Monsters
1st Grade

I first read my 1st graders “The Straight Line Wonder”.

Image result for the straight line wonder book for kids

I have them act out the book with  movement using their bodies as if they were lines, they LOVE it!  After reviewing all the famous lines, they are given black tempera paint to draw the lines.

On day two once their lines have dried, they are given watercolors to paint each section in between the lines.

On day three they get to make their monsters cutting out eyes, mouth, teeth, legs, arms, etc.

I then created the huge “Line Monster” out of their work for the Art Exhibition.

My second grade did collage owls:

  • Paint snow all over their construction paper and glue a brown branch to the bottom of their paper.
  • They were given two circle templates for the body, to trace, cut out and glue onto paper above the branch.
  • Use small pieces of torn paper to fill in the body.
  • Two cupcake liners for eyes, use yellow paper for the circles inside.
  • Use a small piece of black construction paper to make a beak, legs and feet.
  • Lastly fold paper and trace wing template, cut out and glue them on the sides of the owl.

Bugs in a Jar

My 2nd Graders learned how to draw different types of insects.  They first traced a template of a jar.  Then they drew their bugs inside the jar.  I then had them trace their drawing with a black oil pastel/ black crayons will also work.  Then they used watercolors to paint their bugs and their jar.  Lastly they cut out their jars and counted the bugs inside.

Desert Sunsets 🌅

Sunset 4thIMG_2441

My 4th Grade girls learned how to paint silhouettes. They first used red and yellow paint to blend the background sunset. They then painted camels and palm trees with black paint.

My 1st graders made deserts in a box.  I found this idea on Pinterest and fell in love with it. Great for teaching foreground, middle ground, and background. Picture doesn’t do them justice.

Lastly my 3rd Grade boys used oil pastel for the background of their landscapes. Then ripped construction paper for foreground and middle ground layers. Lastly they drew camels on black paper and glued them onto their landscapes.

I absolutely Love how they all came together to create this dynamic display for the schools entrance.

Cave Art

2nd Grade

Learned all about cave art. Students were given examples of animals and symbols to draw on butcher paper, they then colored with oil pastels. The best part was telling them they had to crumble their work up.  Finally they signed their work with their hand print and white paint. I then created this cool cave to display their work.

City at Night

1st Grade City at Night
1st Grade-Shapes, City at Night

1st grade used white paint to make stars and moon on black construction paper. They then cut out shapes and glued them on paper to create houses and buildings resembling their community.  I absolutely love how these came out.
