Let’s go to the Jackson Pollock Art Gallery πŸŽ¨

Grade 3 learned how to create an Abstract action painting inspired by Jackson Pollock. They learned how to critique their artwork as an artist and a viewer. This was part of their Aesthetics PYP UOI Unit. They are ready to go on their field trip now to view artworks of the Expressionist movement πŸ–ΌοΈπŸ€©

Hundertwasser Grade 1

Students learned about Austrian Artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. They used his harmonious landscapes as inspiration to create their own paintings. Mixed media used were: oil pastels, watercolors, and colored construction paper. Students were encouraged to use swirl lines, and bright colors to represent Hundertwasser eccentric personality. They nailed it 🎯 ❀️🎨

After learning about ROYGBIV singing and dancing around the art room my tiny artist created these wonderful multimedia rainbows 🌈

Warm & Cool Zentangle Cat Silhouettes

Students began by drawing 2 cat silhouettes. We discussed how to create Zentangles using line patterns and how to create illusion designs. After students designed both cats they painted warm and cool checkered backgrounds. Lastly they mounted their cats on yellow paper and onto their checkered backgrounds. πŸ˜»πŸ™ŒπŸ½

Cats 🐱 & Dogs πŸΆ

This is one of my favorite lessons.

Students started with an eye study on how to draw realistic animal eyes. They used oil pastels for coloring. Students then began to paint on newspaper. Once dried students ripped and shredded the newspaper πŸ“° and glued onto their blank canvas.

Students then placed the eyes and nose over the newspaper and painted more in-depth details to create their cats and dogs. Multi step lesson with amazing results ❀️🎨😻🐢🀩

🍰 Cake πŸŽ‚ Wayne Thiebaud 🧁 Pop Art

Grade 5

Demonstrated how to draw a slice of cake Students then designed a slice of cake drawing it with appropriate perspective and proportion.

After students’ drawings were done they began assembling and sculpting a 3D version of their cake using cardboard and paper mache techniques.

Students learned how to make and mix ingredients for paper mache sculptures.

Last students painted and decorated their cakes bringing their drawings to life! 🍰 Good enough to eat πŸ˜‹πŸŽ‚

Kandinsky πŸŽ΅πŸŽΌπŸŽΉπŸŽΆπŸ”΄πŸŸ‘πŸ”΅ Grade 3

Students learned about Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky. Students learned about abstract art and how to express feelings through color, shapes and lines while listening to music for inspiration.

Students created a Kandinsky inspired painting using all elements of art in one composition.

Last students used yarn adding actual texture and emphasis to lines.
