Pop Art Donuts 🍩 Wayne Thiebaud

Students learned about American artist Wayne Thiebaud and his contribution to the Pop Art movement. Students created paper mache donuts inspired by the paintings of Thiebaud. Then students did a observational drawing of their donut. As a pre- assessment Students were not given any direction on their drawing, simply to draw what they see.

Later I demonstrated how to draw a still life using appropriate perspective and proportion and guided the students through their drawing. Students developed skills in blending and shading using oil pastels. Students were amazed by their drawing and how much their artistic skills progressed. Students were then asked to reflect on the project and their progression.

Just having fun decorating our donuts 🍩
Time to make the Donuts 🍩

Costume Design 🪡🧵👘

Teaching my Grade 5 how to sew and design costumes for our “Winter Concert”! Students really enjoyed learning how to sew and bring their costume designs to life 👘 🧵 🪡

Grade 2 Observation Leaf drawing 🍃🍂🍁Part 1

Took students outside to collect leaves. We then analyzed the leaves looking closely at the lines, shape, form, and color. Students then chose a leaf to draw.

This is part 1 of our aboriginal leaf painting.

Grade 5 💡 Lesson on Value

Perfect lesson for the holiday teaching students all about the element of art “Value” and how to blend and shade using chalk and oil pastels.

Kandinsky 🎵🎼🎹🎶🔴🟡🔵 Grade 3

Students learned about Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky. Students learned about abstract art and how to express feelings through color, shapes and lines while listening to music for inspiration.

Students created a Kandinsky inspired painting using all elements of art in one composition.

Last students used yarn adding actual texture and emphasis to lines.

Andy Warhol “Campbell’s Soup” Pop Art

Grade 4 students learned about Andy Warhol and his contributions to the Pop Art movement. Students learned why Warhol was inspired by Campbell’s soup and used it for his print making technique.

Students learned about form and how to draw using this element. Students began by designing their Campbell’s soup can. Some invented their own flavors and ingredients. They then created a 3 dimensional can using foil and label. Students were encouraged to focus on their design, letter placement and image to grab the attention of the consumer. Lastly students created ingredient labels and placed them on the back of their cans.

This project included both elements of art and principles of design.

Landscapes

Here is an animated Video I created with my Bitmoji to help my students learn about landscapes with a cool song to help them remember where and how to place objects in the Foreground, Middle ground, and Background. I also teach them a cool dance along with learning the song 🎵 💃🏽🎨❤️

Viva la Frida 🌺🌼🌸💓🙌🏽

This is one of my favorites! My Grade 4 students learned all about Frida Kahlo and her brilliant self portraits. This was a multi-media lesson beginning with a guided demonstration on how to draw Frida. Students used oil pastels and watercolors to design their portraits and background. Lastly students created tissue paper flowers for her crown.

My Grade 1 students had fun choosing funny animals to represent Frida. They used sponge paint to design a textured frame. Students created tissue paper flowers to add actual texture and black felt for Frida’s infamous unibrow.

I must say I’m obsessed with the outcome and the amazing artwork of my little artists.🎨💓

Pop Art -Andy Warhol Prints

My Grade 4’s created Andy Warhol inspired prints of themselves using transparency paper and neon acrylic paints. I took their selfies and printed them out. They then made a stencil of their portraits and used contrasting colors to paint the positive and negative space of their images. My Grade 3’s helped by painting the Jackson Pollock inspired background. We then incorporated the PYP Learner profile for our lobby display. ❤️🎨

Astronauts in Space

Grade 4 learned how to draw an astronaut through a guided drawing tutorial from Art for Kids Hub YouTube channel. Students then developed skills in drawing and blending using chalk and oil pastels as they created an outer space background on construction paper. Once students finished their backgrounds we mounted their astronaut using card stock and mounting tape to give it a 3D effect. 🚀👩🏼‍🚀☄️💫
