Let’s go to the Jackson Pollock Art Gallery 🎨

Grade 3 learned how to create an Abstract action painting inspired by Jackson Pollock. They learned how to critique their artwork as an artist and a viewer. This was part of their Aesthetics PYP UOI Unit. They are ready to go on their field trip now to view artworks of the Expressionist movement 🖼️🤩

Hundertwasser Grade 1

Students learned about Austrian Artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. They used his harmonious landscapes as inspiration to create their own paintings. Mixed media used were: oil pastels, watercolors, and colored construction paper. Students were encouraged to use swirl lines, and bright colors to represent Hundertwasser eccentric personality. They nailed it 🎯 ❤️🎨

Africa 🦒🐘🐆🦛🐅❤️🌍

Grade 4 learned all about Africa from the textiles in their traditional Kente Cloth clothing to the infamous African Safari animals.

Students learned what each color represents in the Kente Cloth and selected the colors that best represent them. They learned how to weave and how to use patterns, shapes, and lines to design their Textiles.

Lastly they incorporated yarn into their weavings. We had so much fun learning about this beautiful continent.

Heather Galler inspired Bouquets 💐

My Grade 2’s absolutely loved drawing these enlarged flower 🌺 🌸 bouquets.

This lesson comes from one of my amazing art teacher friends Cassie Stephens~ you can find more of her projects on her blog cassiestephens.blogspot.com

Cats 🐱 & Dogs 🐶

This is one of my favorite lessons.

Students started with an eye study on how to draw realistic animal eyes. They used oil pastels for coloring. Students then began to paint on newspaper. Once dried students ripped and shredded the newspaper 📰 and glued onto their blank canvas.

Students then placed the eyes and nose over the newspaper and painted more in-depth details to create their cats and dogs. Multi step lesson with amazing results ❤️🎨😻🐶🤩

Students used a variety of materials to create their toppings, they were encouraged to think out the box and recreate their favorite foods as hamburger toppings some included ice cream 🍦, chicken 🍗, egg 🍳, pizza 🍕, sushi 🍣, and more.

🍰 Cake 🎂 Wayne Thiebaud 🧁 Pop Art

Grade 5

Demonstrated how to draw a slice of cake Students then designed a slice of cake drawing it with appropriate perspective and proportion.

After students’ drawings were done they began assembling and sculpting a 3D version of their cake using cardboard and paper mache techniques.

Students learned how to make and mix ingredients for paper mache sculptures.

Last students painted and decorated their cakes bringing their drawings to life! 🍰 Good enough to eat 😋🎂

Pop Art Donuts 🍩 Wayne Thiebaud

Students learned about American artist Wayne Thiebaud and his contribution to the Pop Art movement. Students created paper mache donuts inspired by the paintings of Thiebaud. Then students did a observational drawing of their donut. As a pre- assessment Students were not given any direction on their drawing, simply to draw what they see.

Later I demonstrated how to draw a still life using appropriate perspective and proportion and guided the students through their drawing. Students developed skills in blending and shading using oil pastels. Students were amazed by their drawing and how much their artistic skills progressed. Students were then asked to reflect on the project and their progression.

Just having fun decorating our donuts 🍩
